Pat “Picture Machine” Martynuik arrived in San Francisco in 1970 to work alongside Lyle Tuttle, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the city’s classic street-shop era. Renowned for his relentless work ethic and uncanny ability to distill any subject into bold, readable tattoo designs, Pat’s flash traveled far beyond the Bay — copied, traded, and tattooed across the globe. Over decades, Picture Machine became more than a nickname; it became a visual language that helped define American traditional tattooing itself and a multi-generational legacy carried forward by the Martynuik family.

Drawn from the private Martynuik archive, this volume also includes family photos and rare portfolio images that reveal the people, places, and working life behind the legend. More than a flash book — this is a living history, a working archive, and a family legacy preserved in print.
